Unit 3.2 / Dioramic Modes of Representation - Phase I

                                             

The mission of my project is to analyze how the renewal of an urban neighborhood within

a culturally diverse setting can promote sustainable design principles; moreover, how the different methods and characteristics mentioned in my proposal can be implemented in the master and site-scale plans for specific areas of the West Washington Street in Indianapolis, Indiana. 

With the creation of the diorama, I will attempt to explore a different conceptual approach to the design problems I'm currently phasing. The first phase of the diorama was made out of a weaving basket, clay, and a red ribbon. With the red ribbon I was trying to portrait the corridor (Washington Street). Also, the green pathways represent the different streetscapes and how the projects attempts to make connection to surrounding areas.

   

  

The reasond behind using the weaving basket was to show how the corridor attempts to integrate the different cultures, ethnic groups, and differ age groups. In the past years, Indianapolis has seen a change in demographics. As designers we should pay attention on how integrate those populations into our streets and our neighborhoods. Many city designs only focus on assimilating their presence but we should start designing in a way that they feel welcome and feel integrated into our communities
